For ILIDA, sustainability is not a separate chapter; it is the way we design. Every study we prepare — from a water-supply network to an urban plan or the restoration of a historic building — must balance three values: protection of the environment, social responsibility and the economic viability of the project over its whole life cycle.
As an engineering consultancy, our responsibility begins before construction. The choices made at the design stage — alignment, materials, energy performance, water management, integration into the landscape — determine a project’s footprint for decades. That is why we invest in knowledge: we systematically follow developments in legislation, standards and technology so that the solutions we propose are current, feasible and resilient over time.
Environmental Responsibility
The environmental dimension is inherent to our work. We prepare Environmental Impact Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Special Environmental Studies and Management Plans for Natura 2000 sites, as well as environmental permitting studies for water-supply, sewerage and wastewater-treatment infrastructure.
In design we seek the least possible intervention in the natural and built environment: flood protection and watercourse delineation that respects natural dynamics, energy upgrading of existing buildings rather than their replacement, bioclimatic design of schools and public buildings, and regeneration of public spaces guided by urban ecology and accessibility.
Our team keeps up to date with, and applies, current environmental legislation and industry best practice at every stage of a study — from preliminary investigation to tender documents.
Social Responsibility
The great majority of the projects we study are public: schools, water networks, road infrastructure, squares, the cadastre. They serve communities and everyday needs. We therefore design with the end user in mind — the pupil, the pedestrian, the island resident — and with respect for local identity, historical memory and the scale of each place.
Accessibility for all, user safety and the creation of quality public space are constant criteria in our studies. As an employer, we invest in our people: continuous training, collaboration across disciplines, and a working environment of equality and respect.
Economic sustainability is part of our responsibility towards the public authorities that entrust us: we pursue solutions with rational construction and maintenance costs, a low energy footprint and realistic implementability.
Health & Safety
Safety is not only a site obligation; it starts with the design. We build safety into the study — road safety in transportation projects, rockfall and landslide mitigation, flood protection of settlements — and we prepare the required Health & Safety Plans and Files for every project.
Our principles:
- Identify and eliminate hazardous conditions from the design stage.
- Clear allocation of responsibilities and attention to detail at every stage.
- A safe and healthy working environment in the office and in the field (surveying, site inspections).
- Continuous information and training of staff.
Management Systems
ILIDA operates a Quality Management System certified to ISO 9001 by the accredited body Bureau Veritas Certification, covering the full range of its activities. The system ensures that quality is monitored, measured and evaluated in every study, and forms the basis on which we organise our environmental practice and safety.
